Short project overview
The Chef Yao restaurant in Zagreb is one of those projects that attracted significant media and public attention even before its official opening. However, behind its striking interior lies a complex process of design and execution, where precision and coordination between all participants played a crucial role. Projects like this clearly demonstrate how important high-quality technical preparation is before the actual realization.
For the interior design project of Chef Yao restaurant in Ilica, Zagreb, Studio Ruan (Nikola Pavlinić) was responsible for the concept, design, and both the preliminary and detailed interior solutions. Our company, Studio Element, was involved in 3D measurement, technical preparation, production, and installation of key interior elements, while our long-term partner Articus handled the production and powder coating of decorative metal structures.
Project challenges
The restaurant interior is defined by precise decorative metal elements, custom-made benches, and booth seating that must perfectly follow the space and the architectural lines of the building. In projects of this kind, precision is critical -even minimal deviations can lead to issues during production and installation.
Given the complexity of the interior and the large number of custom-made elements, it was essential to ensure an accurate 3D measurements of the space before the production process began.
Flexijet 3D measurement as the foundation of the project
For the space measurement, we used the Flexijet 3D system for digital CAD measurement, which enables the direct transfer of measured data into CAD software in real time.
This approach allowed us to:
- create a precise digital model of the space,
- transfer measurements directly into design and production,
- eliminate typical errors associated with manual measurements,
- significantly reduce preparation and production time.
Thanks to Flexijet technology, all interior elements could be designed according to the actual dimensions of the space, without the need for additional adjustments during installation.
Executed Interior elements
Studio Element was responsible for:
- technical project preparation,
- fabrication of structural elements,
- production and installation of benches and booth seating,
- upholstery of seating elements,
- production of the reception area.
The decorative metal grids, which represent an important visual element of the space, were produced by Articus d.o.o., while their final finish was carried out through a powder coating process.

The combination of precise digital measurement, high-quality technical preparation, and close collaboration between the designer, manufacturer, and contractor resulted in an interior where all elements were executed exactly according to the design – without the need for on-site adjustments.

- faster preparation of technical documentation,
- safer and more reliable on-site installation,
- optimization of the entire process from measurement to final execution.
